Stuffed animal hide and seek

When my mom comes over my oldest has to play stuffed animal hide and seek with her.  It is a simple idea am sure lots of families play.  My son is 3yr and he loves it, he will play over and over with her.  She goes and hides the stuffed animals and he looks for them.  Sometimes he trades with her and they do the opposite.  It is always a good day for him when his Nannie comes over to play!

Homemade Bubbles Recipe & Snake Maker

I pinned a recipe for homemade bubbles some time ago and today we just got around to trying it out. Daddy was home so I had a few extra minuets to read the blog and get the stuff together.  We also got to enjoy some time with daddy blowing bubbles! The blog list 2 recipes.  I only had supplies to make one.  And it worked just fine. The recipe came from Come Together Kids.  She also listed a bubble snake maker and we tried that too.

I love trying out diy products.  So when I came across hand sanitizer that was great for kids and nursing mom's I was excited and ready to try it out.  I would like to try the one with alcohol one day but haven't gotten around to it yet.  In this post you will see the decorated container I put it in for my friend.

When I saw this idea for liquid chalk at Domestic Charm I just couldn't wait to try it out!  We love playing with chalk over here.  We made this months ago and really enjoyed it. We put it in a muffin pan and had  multiple colors.  We used paint brushes and painted the drive way. I looked forward to doing it again and it seems the time is now!  This week I saw a new idea for using liquid chalk at Inner Child Fun and thought we would try it this way.  Who doesn't want to squirt liquid chalk around?

How to clean your washing machine

I have been looking at my washer every time I put a load in(and that is a lot) and think this washer is nasty.  So when I came across a "how to clean your washer", I decide to read it and then put it to use.  I follow this lady on pinterest and she is the one that posted it.  She has a great website.  This is the link http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2012/04/how-to-clean-your-top-loader-washing.html.

I do not have a front loader washer but she did post a how to on them also here is the link http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2012/02/how-to-fix-smelly-washing-machine.html

What you need in picture above.

This is what I did:  Take and put 1 Quart of bleach in your washer and fill with hot water.  Let wash about a min, then turn off and let set for an hour.  I went ahead and pulled my fabric softener tube out(I had no idea they came off!! NOTE THAT NOT ALL OF THEM DO, BUT MINE DID)  I took it to my sink and filled it with hot water and washed a little with a rag.  Then filled with hot water and left sitting in the sink.  I came back about 15-20 min later and continued to wash it out with vinegar and hot water until it was as clean as I could get it.  When the hour was up on the washer I went and turned it on a normal cycle.  When it was done I added one quart of distilled white vinegar to the washer repeated the same steps as with the bleach.  While the timer was on this time I got a scrubber, rag, and toothbrush and started cleaning the inside of the washer, the lid, the bleach cup, and the inside of the fabric softener cup that the tube I pulled out went down in.  I just used the vinegar water that was in the washer.  When I was done I turned the washer back on.  When the washing cycle was over, I now had a clean washing machine!!!

Plant a Tree or 2 in honor of Earth day{activity for kids}

My husband and big brother are planting 2 trees today and plan on planting one more next week.  This is an Earth Day activity for us.  We are teaching big brother that we need to give back to the Earth with more trees.  I told big brother that the Earth likes trees like he likes M&M's! We give the Earth a special treat like he gets a special treat sometimes.  He thought that was funny.  They are planting me a crepe myrtle and a cypress tree.  Next week when my husband can borrow an auger I hope to get my magnolia tree!  Thankful my boys love me and took the time to plant these trees.  I think even though it took sometime to dig the one hole the boys enjoyed the time together.

We are getting some rain here, so hope it helps our trees.  Anytime to play in the dirt is a good time for big brother.

The great thing about this activity is you can do it anytime it doesn't just have to be for Earth Day.

Bird Seed sensory fun

Today we made our plastic lid bird feeders as an Earth day project. While we were making these the pan to press the lids into for seeds became a play pan for my 3yr old son.  To start he was just having so much fun running his hands through it.  We then added a truck and shovel.  Anything you can shovel and put in a dump truck is a hit at my house!  This is so simple and I am sure we could build upon this to make it bigger and better.  However, sometimes simple is all that is needed to have fun!

The bird seed turned into a  great sensory activity for him.  I love when we stubble upon new ideas to try.  I enjoy letting his creativity take over when he plays.

Cardboard City-one way to recycle

I have seen tons of pictures of other mothers that turn cardboard, paper, carpet, etc into roads and city for their children to play on.  We have done a chalk city in our garage before on a rainy day and my son loved it.  So with Earth day coming up this Sunday, I thought I would share how we turned our cardboard bottoms from our waters and cokes we buy into a "Cardboard City".  I will say I am no artist.  This would have been a good project for my husband.  Thank goodness my son loves me and was OK with what mommy was able to make:-)  Earth day or not this is a fun activity for the kids.

Baby food pouches

This is the baby food my 12 mo old eats.  He loves them and will not eat baby food any other way.  So far we have tried several brands and he seems to like them all.  The only thing that counts to him is the flavor.  They all have different flavors and some are similar.  So as long as I get one he like I can choose from all the brands.
Below are the links to the websites for these pouches if you want to read about them.

Indian headband

We are making rain sticks for Earth Day and I thought we should have Indian headbands to go with it.  This way we can go outside with our rain sticks and headbands and do a rain dance!  This site Kidscraftzone has the feather template I used and directions on how to make a headband.

This is part of our Earth Day activities at my house.  I first got the idea from this site The Imagination Tree.  It also has directions.  Since seeing this idea I have searched on my own how to make a rainmaker or rain stick and come across similar directions and other ways to decorate.  This is what we ended up doing to make our rain stick. We also made Indian headbands so we can go outside and do a rain dance in style.

I got this sandwich cutter at walmart this wk.  I found this one and more in the baby section with the bowls and cups.  Big brother loves for his sandwiches to be cut into shapes.  We have gotten some sandwich cutters at the dollar tree before.  Quick and simple way to make mealtime fun.

Flour paint-we used in tub

This site http://www.bowerpowerblog.com/2011/07/michaelango-his-two-muses/ used flour paint on paper but we tried in out in the tub.  I would like to try it on paper another day.  I like that both my boys(1yr and 3yr) could enjoy this activity together.  My oldest has used homemade finger paint in the tube before and pudding.  He loves them all, more mess the better for him, haha!

Flour paint-we used in tub

What you need:

1 c flour, sauce pan with water, 1 cup cold water, food coloring, cups to put it in, paint brush optional.

Flour paint-we used in tub

What I did:

the site did not really give good direction I thought. So from what I got from the site this is what I did.  I put water in sauce pan(forgot to measure) and heated til it boiled.  Had 1 c flour in bowl and added the boiling water.  I used a whisk to mix.  Then add 1 cup cold water.  After mixing I separated the mix into little plastic cups.  I added food coloring to each cup and mixed.  The paint mixture was so hot, it took a while to cool off for us to use.  When cool give it to the kids and let them have fun.

My baby has been a bit under the weather and was getting tired in the tub but he did enjoy getting messy with the paint.

Big brother had a blast smearing it all over.

Their masterpieces they made in the tub.  Great thing was after I just washed away the mess!

Hope your kid's can have fun with this too!
