I have 3 boys ages 1-5 yr and they never STOP! I know all kids like to go, go, go but all kids are a little different too. Mine never stay still and always like to be busy doing something. I can not say much as they take after me. I eat standing up and I am always on to the next thing. Since we all like to stay busy and have fun along the way, I came up with a Number Bunny Hop Activity. This is a fun number learning activity and great for gross motor skills. Now lets hop along to see what we did.
What to use:
Sharpies
bunny footprints from Dollar Tree
painters tape
During one of our recent trips to the dollar tree we came across these fun bunny footprints. One of my boys saw them and insisted (as he always does) that we get them. I thought a moment and then gave in. My brain was already turning thinking of fun ways to use them...garland, sight words, sneaky footprints going up to Easter baskets Easter morning.....??? What to do! The Number Bunny Hop Gross Motor Activity won out.
What to do:
Take bunny footprints and write numbers 1- 10 on them with the sharpies. Easy peasy start. Then use painters tape and tape the number footprints to the floor.
Once all the footprints are taped down, have the kids line up for a turn hopping along the numbers.
As the kids hop one footprint to the next have them call out the number or help them call it out as they hop on it. Big brother 5yr could call them out little brother 3yr needed a little help. Great way to have fun and go over number recognition.
Even baby brother had to get in on the action. It was the cutest thing to see him walking right behind them. Boy was he happy to be playing with his big brothers. I believe it is never too early to introduce numbers to kids. Come on baby brother play and learn with us.
Once they hopped through the numbers a few times each, I had big brother look at the number. I pointed out that if he only hopped down the right side he would be hopping on EVEN numbers. This was a new concept for him. Then he started over on the left side hopping on only the ODD numbers. After we went over the numbers together a few times I let the boys just hop at will.
A little free play during learning is always a hit at my house. It was quite entertaining to watch them hop, walk, and crawl through the footprints.
Big brother had a lot of fun jumping as high as he could go. Little brothers enjoyed walking really fast then hopping. Baby brother just enjoyed being right under his brothers. And of course he finally noticed the footprints came up with a tug. Then we had footprints missing. But that is ok. They all had a good time.
We hope you and your kids can enjoy this too.
Please do come and visit us again. We would love to have you back.
Follow along with us and be inspired to play on
and our G+ community, All Things Kids.
All kids are different and only you can decide how you let your kids play. And with what materials you let them play with. My children are supervised when playing. Please keep this in mind with any post you read of mine!
