Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog Tail (FSPDT): Back to School Countdown and Day of the Week Recognition

Back to School Countdown and Day of the Week Recognition

I found these super cute pencil cutouts at Walmart a few weeks ago. I knew they would come in handy for something fun.  My oldest son is soon to start back school and I wanted a countdown chain for him.  We used one for vacation, a Fish Countdown, and it helped the kids keep up with how many days until the day we left.  The back to school countdown will help my oldest see how many days he has left until he heads back.  The Back to School Countdown also has another purpose (because I like to multitask).  The second purpose for this countdown chain is to go over Days of the Week.  Even after school starts we can continue to use this Pencil Chain to learn the days of the week!  If you do not have Walmart near you, these could be made by hand with paper.

What I used:

pencil cutouts I bought but you could make from paper

string

washi tape and packing tape(it is what I could find)

What I did:

I took 7 pencil cutouts and wrote the day of the week on each of them.  I then hung the string up where my son would see it each day.  I taped the pencils on to the string so he can pull them off each night.  Then he will see as each day goes by before school starts.

We will also be going over each day of the week as we countdown until school.  We will also put this back up later to continue to review the days of the week.
