Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog Tail (FSPDT): Kool-aid playdough recipe

Kool-aid playdough recipe

I have made a few different playdoughs and there is one I really like.  It comes off the Cream cornstarch box.  All cornstarch works the same to me but this is the only box with the recipe.  I have seen the kool-aid recipe before and wanted to try it but it doesn't call for cornstarch.  I made a gingerbread playdough during Christmas that did not have cornstarch in it and it turned to nasty mushy stuff in about a wk.  Very disappointed.  We also did a peppermint glitter playdough during Christmas but this time I got my good old trusty playdough recipe out and just added the glitter and mint extract to it.  We still have the playdough in a Ziploc bag today and it is still good!  My son loves it.  So needless to say I will be using my trusted playdough recipe and just adding kool-aid to it
:-)

Playdough Recipe

What you need:

1 1/2 c corn starch, 1/2 c flour, 2 c water, 2 tsp cream of tarter, 1 c salt, 1 Tbl vegetable oil.  Put all your ingredients into a sauce pan and cook over medium heat for about 6min.  Or until the liquid mix becomes dough.  KEEP STIRRING the whole time.  I use a whisk to start for maybe a min to get the clumps out then go to a spoon.  When it forms dough dump it on to wax paper and let cool.  When cool then knead to form a pliable mass.

For the kool-aid to be added to this recipe I put the 2 kool-aid packets in my 2 c of water and mixed before adding to the other ingredients. If you do not have kool-aid or do not wish to do it this way just add food coloring of you choosing.

The dough before I kneaded it.

I was hoping to tie the green playdough into st Patrick's day but didn't have any ideas at the moment.  However, I did have a muffin pan on the counter and some puff balls in the kitchen drawer.  I got those out and gave them to him to play while I cooked dinner.  I was so surprised he didn't get up while I got dinner together( about 20-30 min).  If you have small kids or a son like mine that is AWESOME.  He can never stay in one place to long when he is at home.
Little brother woke up while I was cooking.  I wanted to include him.  I decide to give him a metal spoon, a measuring cup and put a little playdough and puff balls in a Ziploc bag for him to look at.  This is something I did knowing I would have to keep a close eye on him, because everything goes to the mouth.  little brother did real good just playing with the spoon to start and then looked at the bag a few min before putting it in his mouth.  I then took it out and we did this for a few min before I had to put it up for another day.  All said and done I think they both had fun with the Kool-aid playdough.
