We are happy to be taking part in dig into exploring underground animals hosted by J Daniel4's Mom.  Last month we joined in with the Gardening Theme.  This month I chose to talk about rabbits with my boys as our underground animal.  We had a few rabbit books already that we could read and tie into an activity.

Last year I came across a blog Time For Play that shared Carrot Cake Playdough.  I was so excited about it.  I had never used cake mix in playdough before.  It didn't hurt that I love carrot cake.  I couldn't wait  for the right time to come up to make a batch of it.  Well that time is now.  What could be more fun than carrot cake playdough to play with while reading rabbit books!  My boys love playdough so this was perfect for us.

What I used

I followed the blogs recipe HERE to make the playdough.  I had a tray out.  I got out the kids plastic flower pots, and a pack of carrot seeds.

What I did

Once the playdough had cooled I gathered our books.  I sat the books out with the tray of playdough...  And had the kids come to the table.

They both couldn't wait to start.  Reading and playdough are two of our favorite things.  I read while they played.

We all loved the smell.  The house smelled like we baked a cake but we just made playdough.  WE DID NOT EAT OUR PLAYDOUGH.  We did enjoy playing with it.  It was a little sticky but we had fun.  I have a favorite playdough recipe HERE that I use for almost everything.  I will have to try this cake mix playdough again and see if I can make it better.
