Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog Tail (FSPDT): How To Make Modeling Clay

How To Make Modeling Clay

We have tried the store bought modeling clay and had fun with it.  I thought it would be fun to make some of our own and add a winter scent to it for an upcoming activity.  I found several recipes at About. com and picked a no cook one to try.  It was easy and it turned out great.  We already LOVE playdough and now we have a go-to recipe for modeling clay too.  I have it stored in a ziploc bag in the fridge and it has kept well for a few weeks now. We had a  lot of fun playing with it in our winter inspired activity and hope you check back soon to see what we did.

What to do:

Mix 2.5 c of flour with 1 c salt. We added blue glitter and mint extract to the mix. Then add 1 c water and mix well.  I had to add more water.  I just added a few tablespoons at a time until the clay was mold-able. Now we were ready to have some winter fun with our DIY modeling clay!

I love how easy this DIY modeling clay recipe is and that the ingredients for it were things we had on hand already.  Making the modeling clay at home was perfect to add scent and glitter to for a little extra fun.  I can't wait to get it back out and create something else with it.  The boys and I really had fun playing with the clay the other day and hope to get a lot of use out of it.  I hope you and the kids can enjoy this too.
