We love sensory play over here. Sensory play for us is usually all about scent and smell with DIY sensory play recipes we enjoy. I wanted to make sure to take the time to explore the sense of sound with the kids. I set up a sound test table for them with DIY colored sticks. Anything that has sticks in it is sure to be a hit with my boys. I could not wait to see what they thought about this idea and loved that they enjoyed exploring sound.
What we used:
our color sticks- made by wrapping electrical tape around them (the kids helped with this)
Recyclable items we had in the box
Even baby brother got in on the action but he had a rattle toy to hit the container with.
I set up a sound table for the kids by placing containers of different sizes and shapes out. Then placed the sticks on the table.
Now all that was left was to let the kids explore the different sounds made by hitting the sticks on the containers. Each container had a slightly different sound.
We also got to do a little scientific investigating by seeing what container would make what kind of noise. The kids also observed that depending on the size and materials the containers were made of affected the sounds made.
Even though a lot of learning was going on during this activity the kids thought it was all about the fun. Helping my boys learn through play is one of the most exciting things to me. Finding ways to help them explore and learn in a way they can enjoy is ideal to me. I look forward to more playful learning with them over the years.
Please do come and visit us again. We would love to have you back.
All kids are different and only you can decide how you let your kids play. And with what materials you let them play with. My children are supervised when playing. Please keep this in mind with any post you read of mine!

I love this activity! My boys are big fans of sticks too. I never thought to put electrical tape around them, but that is a fabulous idea. Pinning!
