Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog Tail (FSPDT): Superhero Snowball Fight

Superhero Snowball Fight

As a mom to all boys I knew the day of super heroes was coming. With my oldest turning 5 last year, he has started to transition over to what I call big boy toys.  No more baby/toddler toys for him unless he is playing with his younger brother's toys.  As he transitions over to new likes and interests, I have to transition too.  I have had to start thinking outside my box of play activities.  Setting him up this Superhero Snowball Fight was just one of many big boy activities to come at my house.

My son has started enjoying superheroes at the end of last year more than before.  For Christmas he and his oldest, little, brother got some little superhero action figures.  They have been all over the house ever since, lol.  Since I am always staring at them or picking them up I got to thinking of what I could do with them.

One day, after I got the 2 younger boys down for naps, I needed something to occupy big brother while I cleaned up.  I was looking for a quick and easy setup to keep his interest for a short time.  This Superhero Snowball Fight was the answer.

What we used:

Only 3 ingredients for this easy kid activity.

1.  Winter Mint Modeling Clay

2.  Tray

3.  Action Figures

Our setup:

I grabbed the modeling clay out of the fridge and flattened some out on the tray.  I rolled up a bunch of little snowballs and added them to the tray.  Last, I added the superhero action figures. Easy peasy. Now I could get the dishes done.

Playtime:

Now that my 5 yr was set up with a simple yet fun activity he was off to playing.

Of course the Transformers had to join in on the fun.

He threw snowballs at the one bad guy.  After he was covered he said they turned him good and now they all played together.  I love what he tells me.  This was a simple sensory experience with the added modeling clay.  He did some print making in the clay with his action men as well.  The main thing about this activity was the imagination, or pretend play, aspect of it.  Giving him a simple set up and letting him take over and come up with his own play.
Maybe this quick and easy kid activity will help you get the dishes done too.

  1. I love it! My son (3) is just getting into super heroes, but is more into Transformers than Superman. I have to start thinking outside the box when it comes to setting up activities for him too!
