We spent an afternoon with paper and red, white, and blue paint, inspired by the upcoming patriotic holiday to make some firework paintings. We first started out with a classic pipe cleaner print seen here. Then we moved on to finding other ways to try and create firework paintings. I decided to try a cut up toilet paper roll and see what happened. My kids had a lot of fun painting like this. It was easy to set up and I loved that we already had these materials on hand. I just love how they turned out.
What we used:
toilet paper rolls
red, white, and blue finger paints
white cardstock
What we did:
I took the toilet paper roll and cut strips down the side with scissors. Then pressed down to fan them out. They did not really stay out but when the kids got to pressing them to the paper it worked.
I put red, white, and blue paint on a paper plate. Then I gave paper and the cut toilet paper rolls to the kids. They dipped them in the paint and then pressed them down all over the paper. I had hoped for a more "single" print but the collection of paint stamped on the paper looked amazing. Bright and cheerful just like a night sky filled with fireworks.
