Today is all about RED, WHITE, and BLUE. The second post in Sink Play Series brought to you by Little Bins for Little Hands and us FSPDT. For us, in the USA, we are getting ready to celebrate 4th of July. Red, white, and blue is the perfect theme for a holiday sensory sink. However, all my readers are not in the USA so I left it pretty basic with just lots of color and not lots of American flags... This sink could work for learning colors and having fun in any country. Not that playing with the American flag would not be fun.
Sensory sinks are always so much fun to set up. Once I have the idea in my head, setting it up does not take long. You may be surprised it is not as messy as you think. The kids had a lot of fun playing and exploring colors in our red, white, and blue sensory sink.
What I used:
Anything I could find red, white, and blue.
red containers
little blue cups
red bottle of bubbles
star shaped glitter ice in red and blue
red pom poms....
To make glitter ice:
Take star shaped ice cube trays( I got mine at the dollar store) fill with water. Then sprinkle glitter on the top of the water before freezing.
I created a background by using a red pillow case and foam glitter stars that craftprojectideas gave us in a goodie box!
Today my 3yr started out playing first while my 1yr napped and my 5yr spent time with daddy.
Today we are using water and ice as our sensory sink fillers. And lots of extra fun items. The bubbles did not make it long before he dumped them but it gave him bubbly water.
We filled the sink with a little tap water and then poured in the blue water I had made him. Pouring and scooping is great for motor skills and hand eye coordination for the kids.
We went over the shape of these colored rings and pom poms. I asked what color is this? He would reply with the answer.
I stood and watched him play and we talked and enjoyed our time together.
Even though I was supervising, I let him take over and do what he wanted (within reason). I gave him the supplies and let him make his choices on how to play. Great open ended activity.
Filling the cups and containers and dumping them out was a favorite. Of course turning on the water was a lot of fun too.
Sensory play is a great way to explore touch, sight, sound, and taste at times. This sink is NOT taste safe. But it does provide lots of learning and fun for kids.
Over the last 2 days I have brought you Superhero Sensory Sink, Science Sink, and today, Red, White, and Blue sensory sink. We love playing in the sink.
