Frogs and Snails and Puppy Dog Tail (FSPDT): Red, White, and Blue Clean Mud~ NO Ivory Soap Recipe

Red, White, and Blue Clean Mud~ NO Ivory Soap Recipe

We made Rainbow Clean Mud in the spring and I had many readers ask if it could be made without Ivory soap.  I figured you could, but had yet to try it out myself.  Today I finally did and it worked out great.  We made Cherry and Berry Scented Red, White, and Blue Clean Mud.  Of course we added Spider-Man in for playtime today.

What we used:

bowls

finger paint

toilet paper

spider-man liquid soap- from dollar tree

water

How to Make:

Tear up toilet paper in a bowl and add a scoop of paint and a few squirts of soap.  Then add water to get the tissue wet but not too wet.  Less water to start is good.  Just add a little more if you need it after mixing.

We had cherry and berry scented soap.  I just love the scents of the clean mud we made.  The soap did give the white clean mud a pink tint so I added a little white finger paint.  It helped a bit.  If I make white clean mud in the future without ivory soap I will look for white soap for it.

Spider-Man is helping us gear up for 4th of July this year.  We have added him to our red, white, and blue play activities this week.  My kids love this idea.  You can leave him out of playtime and add in your own extras: stars, flags, other toys...

How I set it up:

I placed the clean mud on a tray.  I actually wrapped it with press and seal and left it for 2 days before the kids played with it.  It was still good. I then got out star trays, beads (thanks craftprojectideas for gifting us the pony beads), star confetti, spoons, and bowls.

We put a plastic table cloth on the porch to help make cleanup a snap.

Both my 5yr and 3yr really enjoyed the Spider-Man Clean Mud set up.  My 3yr loves beads and was so excited that I added them to playtime.

This play activity is a great way to explore colors, texture, and scent. It is an open ended activity. They are given items and allowed to play as they wish.

A fun way to let the kids use their imaginations to create their own fun.  My kids made spider soup and red, white, and blue cake.

After playing we got out the toys and dishes and wrapped up the table cloth and put in the trash.  I did save the clean mud in a ziploc bag.  Not sure if it will keep but we'll wait and see if they can play at least one more time.
