If you give a dog a donut book craft

My kids LOVE Laura Numeroff books.  If You Give A Dog A Donut is just one of them.  One afternoon, after reading the book, we decided to make some donuts of our own.  Not the kind you eat, but the kind you craft. This was a fun way to extend our story time with some hands on fun.

What we used:

construction paper

glitter glue

sprinkles

What we did:

To start, I traced a pan from the play kitchen to make a large circle.  I then traced a cup for a smaller circle inside it.  I did this on several sheets of paper.  I gave them to the kids.  They took the glitter glue( their frosting) and put it all over their donuts.

They really got excited that I gave them cookie sprinkles to add to their donuts.  Sprinkles went flying all over but that's ok.  They had a lot of fun making donuts.  Once they were through, we left the papers to dry.  I swept the floor and it was all cleaned up.

Once dry, I cut them out.  Now we had a fun donut craft to go with one of our favorite books, If You Give A Dog A Donut.

This was a really fun way to let the kids explore beyond reading.   Squeezing those little glue pens is great for hand muscles.  They got to create their own unique donuts. Just a fun and easy way to spend an afternoon with the kids.  We hope you might enjoy this too.
